Science Diet is the brand name of cat and dog foods marketed by Hill's Pet Nutrition, Inc. (a subsidiary of the Colgate-Palmolive Company). HistoryScience Diet was developed in the 1960's by Mark L. Morris, Jr. PhD DVM (February 3, 1934 - January 14, 2007). Morris Jr. is son of famed veterinarian Mark Morris Sr. DVM who pioneered the field of veterinary clinical nutrition when he was asked to create a specialized diet to assist the first ever seeing-eye dog, Buddy, a female German Shepherd with kidney problems. This led him and his son to create numerous other formulas to meet the particular needs in an animal's nutrition over the course of their lives, and potential varying states of health under the Prescription Diet and Science Diet brands.Current products produced under the Science Diet brand are: canned and dry dog and cat foods, including puppy and kitten formulas, as well as a range of formulas from hairball remedy, and sensitive stomach, sensitive skin, to weight loss and dental care. They also have a line of pet treats, meant for dietary supplementation.

DietsToday.net provide valuable information about diet food, detox diet, healthy diet, science diet, etc.

Lists the top five ingredients of 11 Major Dog Food Brands, including HealthyPetNet, Flint River, Wellness, Science Diet, Iams, Purina One, Purina Pro Plan, Natures Recipe, Nutro Natural, Beneful, Eukanuba. Added bonus: It lists the cost per serving. Watch for by-products, undigestible grains, or WHEAT.

It makes us question why such supposedly reliable and technologically up-to-date companies as Iams and Science Diet may be responsible for the lives of too many pets worldwide. These products are often recommended by vets, and if you can’t rely on them, what can you do?

A massive pet food recall for over 60 million containers of wet / moist cat and dog food spanning most major brands (Iams, Eukanuba, Purina, Science Diet, Nutro) and retailers (Wal-Mart, Kroger, Food Lion, Safeway, etc) was initiated this past Friday. Check out the link and if you have any of the foods recalled, stop using them immediately.
