The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), an agency of the European Union, began operating in 2002. Its permanent home is in Parma, Italy. Its primary responsibility is to provide independent scientific advice on all matters concerning food safety. The Authority assesses risks to the food chain and carries out scientific assessment on any matter that may affect the safety of food and feed in the European Union. The Authority’s work covers the whole food production process ‘from farm to fork’ — in other words from primary production (including the safety of animal feed) to the supply of food to consumers. The remit of EFSA also includes animal health and welfare (both for food producing animals and experimental animals) and plant health and protection. The EFSA gathers information from around the world, keeping an eye on new developments in science. It shares its findings not only with experts and decision-makers but also with the general public. The European Food Safety Authority this morning said it has concluded that meat and milk from healthy cloned cattle and pigs is 'very unlikely' to pose risks to consumers, opening the door to possible European sales of those controversial foods in the future.

Developing a methodology for assessing the risk of nanoparticles and the meat of cloned animals are part of the ongoing work of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), the organisation's head told EU parliamentarians this week.

Scientific experts conclude that experience has shown that mosquitocides typically cause more long-term problems than they solve. The mosquitocide contains the controversial Monsanto patented npt11 antibiotic resistant gene which the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has been supporting.

Regulator agencies like the European Food Safety Authority and the UK Food Standards Agency have been ignoring the precautionary principle, manipulating and corrupting science, sidestepping the law, and helping to promote GMOs in the face of massive public opposition and damning evidence piling up against the safety of GM food and feed

A dye that is used sometimes to colour meat for burgers and sausages is at the centre of a cancer alert. The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) announced yesterday that it could no longer guarantee a safe daily limit for consumers to eat meat with the colourant, Red 2G, which is also known as E128.
