Croatian cuisine is heterogeneous and is therefore known as the cuisine of regions, since every region has its own distinct culinary traditions. Its modern roots date back to ancient periods and the differences in the selection of foodstuffs and forms of cooking are most notable between those on the mainland and those in coastal regions. Mainland cuisine is more characterized by the earlier Slavic and the more recent contacts with the more famous gastronomic orders of today - Hungarian, Viennese and Turkish - while the coastal region bears the influences of the Greek, Roman and Illyrian, as well as of the later Mediterranean cuisine - Italian and French.

Researchers have found a component in mussels that proves vital for future substances in glue. The glue is adhesive due to high amounts of mussel protein.

San Justo Reservoir is closed to boating until further notice, following the recent discovery of an introduced exotic, the zebra mussel. Should the mussels spread throughout California, the impact could rock everything from agriculture to municipal water systems to commercial and sport fishing.

Devastating zebra mussels have now arrived on the west coast of North America. The prolific creatures can clog waterways and pose a threat to fish populations. They've already done lots of damage to the Great Lakes since they arrived there only 20 years ago.
