Chinook salmon

California's Central Valley fall run of chinook salmon apparently has collapsed, portending sharp fishing restrictions and rising prices for consumers while providing further evidence that the state's water demands are causing widespread ecological damage.
"The number of chinook salmon returning to California's Central Valley has reached a near-record low, pointing to an "unprecedented collapse" that could lead to severe restrictions on West Coast salmon fishing this year, according to federal fishery regulators."
A compromise was made for restoring the local Chinook Salmon on the San Joaquin river while still maintaining sufficient water rights for local farmers. The plan will cost an estimated $800 Million.
