Chicken and Rice, also referred to as Platters, and Gyro Spot is a food cart located on the corner of 53rd Street and 6th Avenue in New York City (across the street from the Hilton hotel). Newspapers refer to it as simply '53rd and 6th.' Other names are also used but are used amongst a generally more local population. It primarily serves up platters of chicken (and/or lamb) and rice. The stand is open from 8PM to 5AM everyday, or whenever they run out of food. On extremely cold nights during the winter, the stand is usually not there, but this is only during the weekdays on very frigid nights. During this shift, the stand is typically operated by 3 to 4 men of Middle Eastern descent. They food they serve is Halal as indicated by signs on the stand. Chicken and Rice is regarded by many people as indicated in several newspapers as one of the top places to get cheap food late night. It has earned itself quite a reputation and has spawned many clones. It should be made clear that during the day there is a different chicken and rice cart placed in the same location that has no affiliation with the night time cart.
